The AES has an "less secure" mode as well as the "super secure" mode. Thus no-one with any financial clout is going to care, except Canonical, who I thought had a policy authenyec all hardware working under Ubuntu out of the box.

However, it's not all good news: Confirming that the libfprint does support this device so if it is not working then there is a bug somewhere. Jonathan, Are you sure your device worked in Ubuntu As I am fan of this technology I tried few times to reverse engineer its windows drivers. Personally I have this fingerprint reader Lenovo T for some time now about 2 years. I've tried three of the four versions of the finger print software including the latest and I have the same issue.

Remember, using fingerprints for authentication is much similar to having a password which is written on anything you touch. You can compile it manually but don't install it into the system, wait for someone who can make ppa with this lib. Then you could compare the memory usage linx the same computer right after a reboot.
